Congratulations! The faculty and administration share your pride in this significant accomplishment. Commencement signals one of the most important milestones in your life, as well as in the life of your family, friends and the academic community. The Commencement ceremony that originated during the Middle Ages is steeped in tradition and celebrates our disciplined good work and expectations for a satisfying future. I have attached a program of the primary events and important details surrounding Commencement. Please read the information carefully, recognizing your responsibility for preparation and participation in each event. In addition to the Commencement Exercises on Saturday morning I hope you and your family will attend events planned for all graduates and their families on Friday, May 23: separate receptions for graduates and their families hosted by the faculty in Elon College and the schools of Business, Communications and Education beginning at 1:30 p.m., the Baccalaureate at 3:00 p.m. and the Celebration of Leaders ofr the Twenty-First Century program at 5:00 p.m. To take advantage of the cooler part of the day, the Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 24, will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Later this month you will receive a separate letter from Dean George Troxler, containing important instructions regarding the Commencement morning preparations. Additional information and a full schedule of events may be found on the Elon Commencement Web site: www.elon.edu/e-net/commencement. Caps and gowns may be picked up at the Campus Shop any time after March 31. In addition, if you are a member of an academic honor society that has elected to wear honor cords, these cords will be available for purchase in the Campus Shop or through your advisor. Best wishes as you complete your last semester at Elon. I look forward to joining you for the Commencement festivities in May. Sincerely,
