He is one of American musical theatre's most vibrant new voices, a composer/lyricist who has written some of the more adventurous and admired theatre music of the last decade. His musical, The Light in the Piazza won the 2005 Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Score, his musical Floyd Collins received an Obie Award, the Lucille Lortel Award, and a Drama Desk nomination for Best Musical.

Tuesday, May 9 Under the direction of Tony Sawyer, the ensemble will perform Chaos Theory, music for electric guitar and band by James Bonney, with guitar soloist Chip Newton, and Diary of Changes for alto saxophone solo and band by Jeffrey Steinberg, with saxophone soloist John Bleuel, as well as other wonderful works for band.
Friday, May 19 The Reverend Barbara Brown Taylor, an Episcopal priest who teaches religion at Piedmont College and serves as adjunct professor of Christian spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, will deliver the Baccalaureate sermon for the Class of 2006. In 1995, Baylor University listed her among the twelve most effective preachers in the English language. She has lectured on preaching at Yale, Princeton and Duke Universities and is the author of ten books, including When God is Silent and Home By Another Way. | |
