Black Box Festival
Black Box Theatre, Thursday-Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Join us for the premier of a new musical written by Elon alumnus Chris Miller, directed by Lynne Formato, with music direction by Kenneth Lee (Thursday and Saturday) and a full length student-directed play (title and director TBA — Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m.).

Tickets: $5 or Elon ID. Tickets available at the door — no advance reservations.

Elon University Camerata, Chorale and Festival Orchestra
Masterwork Concert

McCrary Theatre, 7:30 p.m.

This concert will feature three of Handel’s coronation anthems (Zadock the Priest, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened and The King Shall Rejoice) and Poulenc’s Stabat Mater written for soprano, chorus and orchestra. Julie Celona-VanGorden is the soprano soloist for this powerful work by Poulenc. The choirs and orchestra will be under the direction of Gerald R. Knight. Stephen Futrell, director of choral activities, is the chorus master.

Department of Music presents World Out
Young Commons, 6:30 p.m.

The Elon University vocal jazz ensemble élan is joined by Elon’s newest ensemble, the World Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Adjunct Professor of Percussion Jim Roberts. Vocals and percussion will perform music from the Far East to eastern Europe, from south and west Africa to Brazil.

Department of Performing Arts presents “Reflections”Artistic Director, Lauren Winslow Kearns
McCrary Theatre, 7:30 p.m.

“Reflections” is concert dance at its best — innovative, exciting and thought-provoking. Featuring pieces by Elon dance faculty and guest artist Chuck Davis, artistic director of the African American Dance Ensemble. The concert is unified by a choreographic exploration of the theme reflections.

Admission: $12 or Elon ID. Tickets available April 17.

Student Cinema Festival
Paramount Theater, Burlington, 8 p.m.; Transportation available from Boney Fountain at 7:30 p.m.

The festival features the best cinematic student and faculty shorts from the past academic year.

Admission: Free, advance ticket and transportation reservations strongly recommended, call 336-278-5730 after April 1.

Tuesday, May 13
Elon University Wind Ensemble, “Pulse”
McCrary Theatre, 7:30 p.m.

The Elon University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Tony Sawyer, in conjunction with a consortium of university bands across the U.S., will perform a premiere of “Pulse,” a new commissioned composition for wind ensemble by Elon music department faculty member Todd Coleman. The Elon Wind Ensemble will perform “Pulse” and a concert of other wonderful pieces for wind band.
