Prepare for spring break with Health and Wellness Week

Spring break is right around the corner. This year Campus
Recreation has decided to help students prepare for their
get-aways with its Annual Health and Wellness Week.
The events will begin Monday and run until March 18.
This year Campus Rec has chosen the theme “Who knew?
The Skinny on Spring Break.” All week, participants
will be given tips and advice to ensure a safe and healthy
spring break.
“This is an annual spring event that we put on to tell
students the benefits of fitness and provide them with
tips,” said senior Katherine Sherman, director of
Health and Wellness Week. “This year we will be giving
the usual fitness advice along with such information as what
types of sunscreen to use.”
One of the main events of the week is a large group exercise
class that will take place 5:30 p.m. Monday. Due to the
popularity of the large circuit class among students, faculty
and staff, Campus Rec has decided to incorporate it into
Health and Wellness Week.
“The last time we did (this) group exercise was to
prepare students for TriathElon, and we had 88 participants
there,” Sherman said. Since that date, the campus
community has been sending in requests for another large
circuit class.
Those who chose to participate in the group exercise will be
rewarded with a free gift once they have completed the class.
Sherman said she hopes such incentives will increase campus
involvement in the event.
Another highlight of Health and Wellness Week is the annual
bench press competition on Wednesday.
“We already have 83 people signed up,” Sherman
said of the competition. “It’s the biggest
it’s ever been.”
Students have until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the event
begins, to sign up for the competition.
On the final day of Health and Wellness Week, anyone who
stops by Campus Rec will be given a fact sheet that provides
useful spring break tips.
