'Morrow for a better
tomorrow'
Bridget Holstrom / Reporter
As the new SGA executive vice president, junior Dave Morrow
wants to focus on healthier food choices in dining halls,
better security on campus and a better print management
option. He is already working toward reaching these goals.
"We have a great administration that is willing to work
for the students," Morrow said. "Aramark
wants to help and make our food options better."
He met with Aramark recently to share his ideas, and is
happy about their positive attempts at making campus dining
healthier.
He is also a strong believer in improving campus security,
saying there is a need for more "peak time
people." He believes Elon should have more
security cameras, because "we shouldn't have a price
on our security."
Morrow feels that the new print management system has not
been properly explained to students, and he suggested that
organizations also have their own printing accounts.
This way students are not forced to use their own accounts
for the many organizations they might be involved with.
Many students feel that Morrow has their best interest in
mind.
"I think he was the obvious choice because his answers
to student issues are feasible," said freshman Chelsea
Peabody. "He also shows a lot of drive."
Above all, Morrow emphasized that he will fight for the
students. If there is anything students would like to change,
he urges that they let him know. He is excited for the chance
to be the voice of students, and stressed the need for both
feedback and ideas in order to be a successful vice
president.
Morrow knows what Elon students want. His election campaign
wasn't the typical flyer-based attempt at
publicity—he had another plan.
"You need to speak to groups and meet people,"
Morrow explained as he went over his plan for being
elected vice president of SGA Executive Committee. "They
remember you more that way."
Before the elections, he went to Greek chapter meetings and
other organization. He made a Web site to outline the issues
that he felt were important. He met with students to make
sure he knew what they wanted. He held a rally the night
before elections began. In all of his campaigning, he only
hung one sign, on the door to his building.
A seasoned SGA officer, Morrow has worked during the past
year as chair of Public Relations, and set out to tell more
people about SGA.
He was also the junior class secretary of SGA. He even
helped in restructuring a whole new Web site for the
organization, which can be found at www.elon.edu/sga.
Aside from SGA, Morrow is an active member of the Elon
community. He is the drum major of Elon's Marching
Band, Fire of the Carolinas, a member of Greek IV Leadership,
an Office of Admissions tour guide and a member of both Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law
Fraternity.
Students may come speak with Morrow and other SGA officers
during their meetings each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Moseley
215.
