Students share Hurricane Katrina relief experiences During spring break, a group of Elon students and faculty returned to Bay St. Louis, Miss. to continue rebuilding this Gulf Coast community that was hit by Hurricane Katrina. They spent five days gutting houses, clearing fields, building houses and organizing supplies. These following journal entries are not about the work they did, but are about the people they met. The words "destruction" and "devastation" are often used in the entries to describe the environment, but the words "hopeful" and "grateful" are used even more. Here is just a glimpse into the volunteers' week. Sand and Service: Elon Student's Spring Break
