Cook predicts Democrats

Misdirection among reasons for shift in political majority

Dr. Charlie Cook, a non-partisan political reporting guru, visited Elon on Sept. 7 and delivered a presentation with his predictions for the upcoming midterm election, as well as for the 2008 elections.  Cook believes the Democrats will win the midterm elections, and he delivered four reasons why.

Sportsfest crowns annual champions

Last Friday’s Sportsfest was a success as 31 teams braved the elements and successfully completed the annual event sponsored by Campus Recreation.


The 310 competitors battled through the rain storm all in the love of competition and the spirit of the event.


The winners included: first place, Team Supreme, second place, the Mighty Ducks and third place, the Aviators.

Students competed in a Tug-of-war contest during this year’s Sportsfest. Students braved the rain through seven hours of team competitions.


Greek life directors bring new energy

There’s a whole new vibe in the Greek Life Office with new Director Jay Anhorn and Assistant Director Gina Dowell.  


Anhorn and Dowell have yet to make waves across campus, but their main goal is to watch out for the students. “Keeping health and safety of the students is number one,” Anhorn said. “I want to spend time making sure they understand [the] rules,” he said of recruitment regulations and restrictions on organization-sponsored parties off campus. He said he wants everyone to have a positive Greek life experience, like the one he had at Lehigh University, which has a comparable Greek system.


Convicted money launderer warns students not to follow same path

Walt Pavlo delivered his lecture, “Analysis of a White-Collar Crime,” on Sept. 6 and 7 in the LaRose Digital Theater inside the Ernest A. Koury Sr. Business Center.


Pavlo described the events that led to his imprisonment for wire fraud and money laundering.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Apple Computer launched its highly anticipated online movie service Tuesday.

September 15-17 marks Family Weekend 2006. Events include a golf tournament on Friday, meetings with faculty members and the Elon football game against Presbyterian on Saturday.

The class of 2010 cast their votes, on Wednesday, for their school representatives. The results have been counted.

Former Justice O’Connor will speak at convocation at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 in the Koury Gym.
