Career Planning Checklist

Sophomore Year - Career Exploration

• Use the Career Center website and other resources to research career fields and occupations
• Evaluate interests and abilities through testing (visit the Career Center for assistance)
• Attend career-related programs (including the Career Exploration Series) sponsored by the Career Center or individuals departments
• Talk with professionals in career fields and occupations that interest you
• Discuss options with a career counselor at the Career Center and develop a career plan
• Tsst career options through volunteer work, workshadowing experiences and part-time jobs
• Attend workshops or set up an apointment with the Career Center to work on career issues such as resume writing and interview skills
• Declare a major
• Attend Elon University Career fairs to find out more about internships/co-ops and summer jobs
• Register on the Elon Job Network for internship/co-op opportunities; see the Career Center for additional assistance in locating internships and co-ops
• Plan early for career-related summer work
• Increase involvement in extracurricular activities and seek leadership roles
• Join an on-campus pre-professional organization
• Participate in Study Aboard
