Career Planning Checklist
Sophomore Year - Career Exploration
- Use the Career Center website and other resources to research career fields and occupations
- Evaluate interests and abilities through testing (visit the Career Center for assistance)
- Attend career-related programs (including the Career Exploration Series) sponsored by the Career Center or individuals departments
- Talk with professionals in career fields and occupations that interest you
- Discuss options with a career counselor at the Career Center and develop a career plan
- Test career options through volunteer work, workshadowing experiences and part-time jobs
- Attend workshops or set up an appointment with the Career Center to work on career issues such as resume writing and interview skills
- Declare a major
- Attend Elon University Career fairs to find out more about internships/co-ops and summer jobs
- Register on the Elon Job Network for internship/co-op opportunities; see the Career Center for additional assistance in locating internships and co-ops
- Plan early for career-related summer work
- Increase involvement in extracurricular activities and seek leadership roles
- Join an on-campus pre-professional organization
- Participate in Study Aboard
