Spotlight: Celebrating students, faculty and staff involvement

Program Spotlight:

Leadership program participates in Lithuania summer program

Elon's Center for Leadership and Center for Public Affairs recently concluded its inaugural series of summer workshops at the ISM University of Management and Economics in Vilnius, Lithuania. The program was conducted in conjunction with the Lithuanian Youth Leadership Program and included associate dean of student life Rex Waters, two Elon students, and more than 100 Lithuanian high school students in programing focused on the challenges of leadership.

Elon wins national award for civic engagement in higher education

Elon was chosen one of five recipients of The Washington Center's inaugural Higher Education Civic Engagement Award, a new honor given by the national nonprofit organization in recognition of a commitment to service-learning and civic engagement on campus. Several Elon programs earned commendation, including academic service-learning, Social Entrepreneurship Scholars program, Kernodle Center for Service Learning, Elon Academy, Elon University Poll and Project Pericles.

Faculty/Staff Spotlight:

Sheri Wall, Work Order Clerk, Physical Plant

Sheri offers her time and effort in myriad ways throughout the greater Elon and Alamance County community. Wall has worked with the board of directors of Family Abuse Services of Alamance County, an organization dedicated supporting local victims of domestic violence. She volunteers with the Cub Scouts, as a Sunday school teacher, a service sorority member and an advocate for sustainability. And she gives of her time and effort in less formal settings, like bringing food to grieving neighbors and colleagues after deaths in the family or sitting with elderly patients at the local hospice.
