History of ELONTHON

This great event started four years ago at Elon University and below you can find the history information on Dance Marathon, Children's Miracle Network, and a quick glance at Duke's Children's Hospital.

History of Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon started in 1973 at Penn State University to raise money for Penn State 's Hershey Medical Center. Now, schools across the country put on the yearly event to benefit Children's Miracle Network, which first got involved in 1977 when Indiana University did their first Dance Marathon. Over the years, Dance Marathon's across the country have raised millions for CMN. Here on campus, it is the biggest fundraiser that is student run. Money raised by ELONTHON dancers all supports Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, NC. This money goes to help with medical expenses of the families and the hospitals that Duke works with.

History of Children's Miracle Network

Children’s Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals throughout North America. Each year these hospitals treat 14 million children with diseases, injuries, & birth defects of every kind. The hallmark on CMN is that 100% of every dollar that is donated stays in the community. Therefore, all money raised supports local hospitals and CMN hospitals treat all children regardless of affliction or the family’s ability to pay.
