Schedule of Events

Below is a list of the events and programs for Family Weekend 2015! The schedule will be updated often, so be sure to check back. We look forward to seeing and visiting with you! 

Friday, September 25, 2015

1:00 p.m. (PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED)
Golf Tournament, Indian Valley Golf Course
Hosted by the Phoenix Club, the tournament will be a shotgun start. Entry fee ($65 per person) includes greens fee, cart, beverages and award. Participants should plan to spend most of the afternoon on the golf course. Before registering, please check with your student on his/her class schedule.

1:30 p.m.
Space provided for Jummah Prayer, Numen Lumen Pavilion
The Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life has arranged a space and provides rugs for Jummah prayer.

3 – 7 p.m.
Check-in and On-Site Registration, Koury Athletic Center Concourse
Check in and grab your student’s schedule for meeting with faculty on Saturday morning, tickets for events and/or meals, and other useful information.

3 – 10 p.m.
Koury Center Open Recreation, Campus Recreation, Koury Athletic Center
A pass to use the Koury Athletic Center is available at check-in. The “Rec Center,” which houses Beck Pool and the Stewart Fitness Center, includes a cardio-fitness room, free weight room, five racquetball courts and an aerobics studio. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and may not use the cardio-fitness room. To see what else Campus Recreation has to offer, visit www.elon.edu/campusrec.

7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. (TICKETED EVENT)
Collage Concert, Yeager Theater, Center for the Arts
Elon’s Performing Arts will present an exciting collage of entertainment performed by our talented students!

8:30 p.m.
The Music Department Faculty Concert, Whitley Auditorium
Faculty artists invite Elon families and friends to a mixed program for voice, piano, organ, percussion, wind and brass. This program has been a big hit since it began in 1999 - come and enjoy this great show.

Join us to check-in if you weren’t able to make it on Friday. A continental breakfast is served from 8–10 a.m.

8:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Sibling Activities, McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center
Fun and games for siblings ages 6-12. Sponsored by the Inter Residence Council (IRC) and the National Residence Halls Honorary (NRHH).

9 – 9:30 a.m.
University Update, McCrary Theatre, Center for the Arts
Dr. Leo M. Lambert, university president, will welcome families and provide a university update.

9:30 – 11 a.m.
"Meet and Greet" Professors
Enjoy informal conversations with your student’s professors. Faculty members’ locations are printed on your student’s guide that is available at check-in.

9:45 – 10:30 a.m.
For Grandparents: Seminar I, Center for the Arts
Grandparents can choose from two engaging sessions led by Elon faculty members. Seminar descriptions are available at check-in.

10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Mini Classes
Recipients of the Daniels-Danieley Excellence in Teaching Award and other distinguished faculty and staff will teach these classes.  A full list of session topics, descriptions and locations will be provided at check-in.

1:30 – 3 p.m. (PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED)
For Grandparents: Elon University Campus Tour
Join us for a special campus tour just for grandparents. Get an insider’s view of the university and enjoy the beauty of the campus, which is a designated botanical garden and a member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. Bus transportation will depart from the Center for the Arts.

4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. (TICKETED EVENT)

Catholic Mass, Elon Community Church   
Elon Catholic Campus Ministry invites all Catholic students and families to mass.

Family Weekend Tailgate, North of Rudd Field (Rain location, Koury Athletic Center)
Get excited for the football game against Towson at the Family Weekend Tailgate! Enjoy a variety of your favorite tailgate foods, lawn games, music, a caricaturist and much more! (Vegetarian and gluten free options are available with online registration pre-orders.)  Tickets should be purchased for all family members. Student meal plans are not able to be honored at this event.

Football Game, Rhodes Stadium 
Cheer on the Phoenix as they take on fellow Colonial Athletic Association member, the Towson Tigers. Tickets can be purchased through the Family Weekend registration site.

10 p.m.
SUBcinema, Global Commons Quad (Rain location: McKinnon Hall)
Come out to the Student Union Board's weekly movie on the lawn for a special Family Weekend movie. Free popcorn – just bring your family or friends!

8:30 – 10 a.m.
Coffee at the President’s Home (PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED)
Enjoy a continental breakfast with Leo and Laurie Lambert at Maynard House prior to the worship service. Transportation will be provided from McMichael parking lot. (The last bus will leave McMichael parking lot at 9:30 a.m.)

10 a.m. – 12 a.m.

Sunday Christian Worship (ecumenical, non-denominational), Sacred Space, Numen Lumen Pavilion
Open to all members of the community, connect with the chaplains and campus ministers and enjoy coffee and light refreshments. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m.

11:00 a.m.
Hillel Bagel Brunch, McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center
Elon Hillel welcomes all Jewish students, families, faculty, and staff for a catered bagel brunch.
