Greek Life Internship
September 2 - December 9 (16 weeks)
Job Description & Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop event planning and
management skills through coordination of social event
registration for both on and off campus
-
Process weekly social event registrations for on and
off-campus events
-
Verify approved third party venues and follow up with
events at such locations in consultation with the Director
of Greek Life
-
Organize “party packs” for on-campus social
events (BYOB cards, wrist bands, guest lists, cups, trash
bags, etc.)
-
Coordinate tailgating for home football games with Student
Activities
-
Schedule appropriate security staffing and payment for all
on-campus events
-
Log all events in Greek Life database
2. Exhibit self-reliant behaviors and
collaborative efforts by organizing major all-Greek
events with Greek Councils and House
Managers
-
Plan and organize National Hazing Prevention Week
(September 22-26) with Greek Council Vice Presidents of
Education and Programming
-
Host Trick or Treat on Greek Street (October 26) in
conjunction with House Managers
-
Coordinate Loy Lights Up Holiday Decorating Event (November
16) with House Managers
3. Enhance written communication skills
by producing a bi-weekly newsletter, Stall Street
Journal.
Winter Term 2009
Greek Life Internship
January 5 - February 1 (4 weeks)
Extends over Fake Break for Panhellenic
Recruitment
Job Description & Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop effective communication
skills by educating new students and their parents on the
logistics of fraternity and sorority recruitment in January
2009.

Answer questions regarding recruitment via phone and in
person
-
Assist with publicity and marketing communications via
E-net, emails and flyers
-
Assist with event planning for fraternity recruitment
events, including basketball tailgates, field day and
tables in Moseley
-
Coordinate budgets for Pi Chi (Recruitment Counselor)
groups
2. Exhibit the ability to comprehend the
dynamics of a group and visualize a group purpose through
planning and execution of the annual Greek Leadership Retreat
in February 2009.

Coordinate facilities, transportation, lodging and meals
for retreat

Assist Greek Life and Center for Leadership with
development of curriculum
-
Facilitate retreat sessions and encourage participation
-
Develop and administer assessment of retreat based on
learning outcomes
3. Exhibit self-reliant behaviors and
function autonomously by assisting with the management Loy
Center facilities and the 2009 Housing Review
Process

Assist with facility maintenance and management
-
Compile 2009 Housing Review Packets and schedule
presentations for all organizations requesting Housing for
2009-2012
