Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity

Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award

*Awarded to the North Carolina Mu chapter (Elon University) at the 2011 Grand Chapter Conclave, August 2011
The Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award, named in honor of two-time Grand President and Grand Treasurer Edwin Buchanan, is indicative of the highest level of undergraduate achievement in our Fraternity. The "Buc Cup" recognizes the best-of-the-best Sigma Phi Epsilon chapters.  Chapters are measured against the accomplishments of their peers at campuses across the country. Only the chapters that excel in every area of operations and further the Grand Chapter's strategic plan qualify for this high honor.

SigEp Residential Learning Community

*Initial accreditation awarded to the North Carolina Mu chapter (Elon University) on May 9, 2011

The Residential Learning Community— formally established in 2000 — is the result of a desire to create a more powerful living/learning environment within our chapters. It is not simply a program promoting good grades; rather, it expands upon the traditional residential college model and the most relevant research within higher education. Recent publications indicate that students in living/learning communities exhibit higher levels of engagement in college activities with stronger academic outcomes.

One of the main goals of the RLC Program is to augment the fraternal experience with an academic focus beyond the classroom.  While college fraternities have been criticized for their lack of integrated and focused student learning among undergraduates, living/learning communities address these issues and link together useful academic opportunities.

Excelsior Award

*Awarded to the North Carolina Mu chapter (Elon University) at the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta, Georgia in February of 2011.

The Excelsior Award recognizes chapters who show significant improvement in specific areas of chapter operations.
