Emerging Leaders

First-year students at Elon University have the opportunity to refine and further develop leadership skills through the Emerging Leaders phase of the Isabella Cannon Leadership Program. This phase is specifically designed for students to learn about SELF. Leaders who are aware of their thoughts, feelings, strengths and weaknesses are well prepared to succeed in a variety of leadership roles and experiences.

When focusing on SELF, Emerging Leaders will develop skills that include being proactive, setting and achieving personal goals, managing time and stress, learning various leadership styles, thinking critically and ethically, acting with integrity and striving for personal mastery.  Workshops are presented by university professors and staff that hold expertise in the topics.

Participants are asked to:

  • Participate in and reflect on six workshops
  • Reflect during a fall and a spring discussion with Phase III members
  • Complete 20 hours of community service
  • Join a campus organization
  • Attend 4 campus events
  • Interview two on campus leaders
  • Complete a legacy reflection at the end of the year
