Elon University housing in the residence halls can be cancelled for the following reasons: study abroad/away, withdrawal (medical and academic), transfer, graduation, and rising juniors and seniors who wish to move off campus.
Elon University housing in the apartments can be cancelled for the following reasons: withdrawal (medical and academic), transfer, and graduation.
To cancel any housing assignment you must come to residence life in Moseley 213 and complete a housing cancellation form. If you are cancelling for reasons of withdraw or transfer you must also complete paperwork in the office of student health and wellness, Ellington 104.
Late cancellation of a housing assignment after the cancellation deadline will result in a cancellation fee. See the table below for deadlines and applicable fees.

Once you have completed the form, please allow 2-3 weeks for residence life and the bursar's office to process your cancellation. Your housing reservation fee will be refunded to you in the same manner that it was paid. For instance, if you paid with a credit card, the money will be refunded to your credit card account.
Once your lease agreement starts for an apartment, or the official academic year has begun for students in a residence hall, you are in a binding legal agreement with the university for fall, winter, and spring semesters. If you are an enrolled Elon student this contract can only be cancelled by going through the appeal process. Approval through the appeals process is not guaranteed.
After the start of the academic year, you may cancel your housing by completing the lease turnover process. This involves finding another student to take over your current space for the remainder of the lease contract (May 31).
Juniors and seniors may also use the lease turnover process to change rooms during the year. If you wish to move to another apartment space, you can swap spaces with another apartment student or find a replacement for your current space in order to move to a vacant space.
