Residential Campus Initiative Overview
The Residential Campus Initiative is a groundbreaking effort, grounded in the Elon Commitment strategic plan, that is designed to transform the Elon experience to create one of the nation's most vibrant residential campuses, fully integrating student life with the university's outstanding academic programs.
A multi-year initiative, the plan seeks to build upon Elon’s national reputation for engaged learning to integrate the academic, residential, and social experience of students, reconnecting living on campus with the core values and functions of the university. The implementation of the plan over the next decade will deepen the intellectual climate of the campus and contribute to a strong, inclusive learning community.
The plan is marked by the following guiding principles:
a predictable four-year pathway through the residential experience, that groups students by, and focuses on, specific class year development and needs and serves 75 percent of students
intellectual neighborhoods that orient and ground students intellectually and socially, including groups of residential “houses”, affiliated faculty and staff, peer mentors, classrooms, common social and academic spaces, dining, services, and unifying traditions
intentionally linking the residential experience with faculty through courses taught in residential neighborhoods, faculty-in-residence within first-year and sophomore housing, faculty affiliates leading discussions/programs with neighborhoods and floors, partnerships with academic units and targeted support services and layered mentoring connecting residential students to upper division student mentors
