Faculty-in-Residence

Elon currently has four faculty-in-residence:

Ricardo Mendeoza Castano, Visiting Faculty Member in Residence and Instructor in Spanish, lives in Colonnades B in the Casa de Espanol community.
Dr. Laurin Kier, Associate Director of Tutorial Services, lives in Danieley Center.
Ken Calhoun, Assistant Professor, Communications, lives in the Isabella Cannon International Pavilion.
Elon Directory Eric Hall , Associate Professor of Sports Medicine, lives in the William R. Kenan Jr. Honors Pavilion.

The Faculty-in-Residence program (FIR) encourages and maximizes the quality and quantity of faculty-student interaction on campus and outside of the classroom by having faculty members live in apartments located within the residence halls.

Faculty in the program get a unique perspective on student life and unique opportunities to interact with students in learning outside the classroom, all of which lead to:

  • community building
  • intellectual discussion and growth
  • career and idea exploration
  • creative thinking and
  • practice in lifelong and seamless learning.

Students living in these halls have the opportunity to develop friendships and mentoring relationships with interesting and popular faculty members and their families.

Faculty-in-residence impact students by:

  • interacting with students in informal settings
  • providing informal academic advising
  • maintaining contact hours each week in the residence halls.
