Student Staff Overview

We are excited that you are interested in a leadership position in Residence Life! Residence Life student staff members serve as role models, build community among residents and handle administrative paperwork. The leadership opportunity will help you gain skills such as conflict resolution, understanding group dynamics, event planning, time management skills, and provide an opportunity to work with peers while creating a positive residential community.

Residence Life holds an annual selection process for selecting the next academic year's Residence Life Student Staff. The selection process requires candidates to demonstrate a variety of skills related to certain situations. The procedure is meant to provide an objective selection process. Staff selection has several parts and all candidates are expected to attend.

Each candidate will be evaluated by a variety of professionals and current staff members in each session. Applications, references, grade point averages, evaluator marks, group process night and/or individual interviews will be used to determine the best-qualified candidate for available positions.

The goals of the staff selection are:

• To provide a selection process by which the best possible staff person can be chosen.

• To provide a process that is objective, fair and consistent.

• To provide a process that provides candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their skills as they relate to the characteristics of an effective staff member that will fulfill the job responsibilities.
