Freshman Selection: Assignment Letter
Dear Student –
WELCOME
This is your official assignment letter! Below you will find important information about your assignment and arrival this August. Please make sure to check your assignment and read all of the information below.
TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS
If your assignment is listed as temporarily unassigned, you will be assigned as space becomes available. Assignments will continue to be made throughout July based on enrollment deposit date. This is an annual process, so be assured you are guaranteed a space and will be notified immediately when an assignment is made. In addition, students can log back into this page to view any updates.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In order to help make your transition to campus more comfortable, we offer a number of services. We encourage students to contact their roommates so you do not double order any services.
Making your room more like home – To learn about the dimensions and amenities, click here. To learn about general amenities of your assignment, click here. For a list of items to bring, click here.
Roommate Relationships – One of your most important relationships at Elon will be with your new roommate and so we have developed a roommate relations website to help facilitate your adjustment to college and living on campus. You can check it out here.
We recommend that you read “The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College,” before you arrive in August. The book is recommended nationally by many colleges and universities and its goal is to help students talk to each other about issues and establish communication that will avoid roommate conflicts. You can check out www.amazon.com to order your copy now!
Extra-long sheets – All our mattresses take extra-long sheets. Order soon for the best colors, and help the Resident Student Association raise funds in the process. You can check it out here or call 800-957-4338.
MicroFridge – A microwave and refrigerator all in one waiting for you in your room for $160.00 (+ 6.75% tx). These uniquely designed units are the only microwaves allowed in residence halls (except in kitchenette space in Danieley Center). If Early Arrival students would like their Microfridge unit placed in their room before Opening Day, August 28, rental orders must be completed BEFORE August 1, 2009 (please note that Early Arrivals are only permitted if students are arriving with a particular group or organization). Elon will not issue Microfridge rental refunds once the academic year has begun, September 1. Residents who move or leave Elon are responsible to resolve any problems that arise with their roommate concerning their Microfridge rental.
This fee is non-refundable once the academic year has begun. Residence Life does not mediate any conflict that may arise between roommates in regards to this unit. In addition, if students participate in Study Abroad, they are responsible for contacting Amy Vaughn, x736, to make arrangements for the MicroFridge to be removed during the room check-out process. No refunds will be issued for Study Abroad participants or withdrawals.

- Cell phones (A cell phone provider will be on campus for several days after opening day).
- Prepaid phone cards (available for purchase in the book store and at various merchants).
- Calling cards (offered by various long distance providers).
- 1-800 service for your home ( e.g. http://www.enjoyprepaid.com, http://www.discountlongdistancerates.com)
Mail services – Campus mail boxes are currently being assigned. If you do not have one at the current time, then check back on this site in a week or two to view your campus mailbox assignment. If you are going to send packages and boxes for the opening of the semester, you can go to the Mail Services website for the proper addressing format.
Renter's Insurance – While Elon University cannot and does not cover students' lost, stolen or damaged property; we certainly recognize your need for ensuring the safety of your property. Elon University is a safe and caring environment, but, like your home, it still requires forethought about protecting personal belongings. We encourage you to look over the website, talk to your insurance agent and consider some form of renter's insurance. To find out more about renter's insurance, please click here.
