Case de Espanol

Description:

The Casa de Espanol offers a challenging and supportive environment for Elon students interested in a mini-language immersion setting. Through the support of a native-speaking Language Assistant, house meals in Spanish and programs, cultural discussions and gatherings for all Spanish majors and minors, living in this community challanges and supports students' language skills both before and after they study abroad. Spanish is the primary language of communication in the house and residents facilitate regular house activities and gatherings for Spanish majors, minors and faculty.

Highlights:

  • Weekly house dinners in Spanish
  • Movie nights
  • Campus cultural programs
  • Service in the local Hispanic community
  • Study abroad discussions
  • Holiday gatherings (Cinco De Mayo, Dia Del Muerto, etc.)
  • Guest speakers/faculty lectures
  • Events with Sigma Delta Pi and El Centro
  • And more!

Who will live in the Arts and Science Fellows Learning Community?:

The Spanish Lanugage faculty at Elon consider it an honor to be selected to live in the Spanish House. Residents are expected to make the Spanish House a special place. Spanish must be the language most frequently spoken in the house, and it should always be the language of communication at group meals and at special events. Students must maintain a constructive and positive attitude towards communication and cross-cultural living and contribute to the academic goals of the House. Students should maintain the cooperative and understanding spirit of the house. Since Spanish will be the primary language of commuication, residents must have completed SPN 310 by the time they live in the house. The house is open to both men and women.

Location? What about meal plans?:

Casa de Espanol is located in the back of the Trollinger Street House, located at 201 W. Trollinger Avenue. The house is open to both men and women, and sophomores are required to have a five meal plan; first year students are required to have 15 meal plan. The house includes:

  • 2 Double Rooms
  • 4 Single Rooms
  • 2 Bathrooms
  • Full Kitchen with refrigerator and stove
  • Living room with couches, lamps, coffee table, and end tables
  • Washer/Dryer
  • 3-4 exterior doors
  • Cable TV and internet connections in each room
  • The house is open to both men and women
