Room Changes
Residence Life is deeply committed to helping all incoming
students have a good year in the residence halls. Perhaps one
of the difficult adjustments that new students have to the
residence halls is sharing a room. We know through years of
experience that the most successful roommate pairings are the
ones that effectively communicate with each other. We have
staff in the residence halls that are equipped to help
students communicate but ultimately the students must talk
through any issues. When communication fails, or when changes
are needed, we have a process for residents to follow.
Room or residence hall changes may occur two weeks after each
term has begun, on a space available basis. Unless there are
extenuating circumstances, changes should not be made prior
to this time. All persons involved in a room change must be
in agreement. If you are having difficulties in your current
room, contact a residence life staff member. Roommates are
expected to try to resolve conflicts, but where a resolution
cannot be found a room change will be considered.
Please be aware there are usually limited spaces open on
campus.
General Room Change Process
-
Get a list of available vacancies and a room change request
form from one of the Area Offices or the Residence Life
Office.
-
Go meet/call individuals on the list. We suggest that you
actually visit the rooms. Get the necessary signatures on
the form.
-
Return with the form to the Area Office for your current
residence. If the space is still available, the office will
go through the final steps to complete the move.
Room Change Process for Winter and beginning of
Spring Semester
At the end of the fall semester there will be a Room Change
meeting. Students will need to complete the first two
steps from the general process and submit the form at the
meeting-not to their Area Office. Students interested
in moving will need to attend the Room Change meeting.
If you apply to move at the end of the fall semester, you are
required to remove all of your belongings from your room
after your last final exam. Coordinate your move in with the
resident who is moving out of the space that you want to move
into. If you do not follow all check out procedures and
file the necessary paperwork with your residence hall staff,
you will not be able to move.
