Living & Learning Meet
Overview of
Learning Communities
Residential Learning Community — (noun) a cohort of
students residing in the same residential area, interacting
together and with faculty through a shared class, academic
major or intellectual interest.
By promoting learning in the residence halls, learning
communities help to develop a “rich intellectual
community,” an atmosphere of academic reflection, and
relationships between students and faculty. Learning
Communities outcomes connect directly to the University and
division’s goals of engaged learning, intentional and
intimate community and seamless in-and-out-class
learning.
