Letters Learning Community:
Are you a closet artist or writer or filmmaker? Are you
simply a lover of the "cultural arts"?
We're talking literature and film and painting.
We're talking theater and sculpture. And poetry
that's not by Jewel. And music that's not on
MTV. And movies that don't star Hilary Duff.
What if you could live and hang out with other people who
were into those things too? Now you can.
Here's the deal:
What/Where: In the new Arts &
Letters Learning Community, home of Elon’s alternative
culture. This living-learning community is designed to
generate an atmosphere for students to express and explore
liberal thinking, creativity and artistic interests or
skills. It is located in the Trollinger House (201 W.
Trollinger).
Who: We're looking for
open-minded, alternative-thinking, culturally aware people to
live and play together. Students must show an interest
in the liberal arts, either by majoring in an artistic field
or the humanities (art, English, film, music, theater,
philosophy, poli sci, history, etc.), or by simply enjoying
and getting involved in the arts. Students should be
interested in:
Highlights:
- Going to film festivals like Flickerfest
- Coordinating campus reading series
- Attending readings on and off-campus
- Helping to educate other progressive thinkers, artists
& writers
about
your areas of expertise
- Taking gallery and museum tours
- Attending music shows, art shows, speakers/lectures,
plays, etc.
on
campus as well as in Chapel Hill, Greensboro, or
Raleigh/
Durham.
- Traveling to DC for marches
- Working collaboratively across arts/genres with students
& faculty
- Creating works of art
- Designing your own floor shirt
- Participating in coffee houses
Requirements:
Students must show an interest in the arts or writing,
either by majoring in an artistic field, such as art,
creative writing, film, music, theater, or by enjoying and
getting involved in the arts.

Returning Students: Contact the community
advisor(s) and complete an application during the annual
online housing selection process.
Incoming Freshmen: Select YES on the
Freshman Online Housing Application and answer the essay
question and submit it.
