Deutsches Haus

What is it?

The Deutsches Haus offers a unique environment for students interested in German culture, language, and society. Residents can participate in regular house activities such as weekly dinners and movie nights, holiday gatherings such as Fasching and Oktoberfest, speakers & lectures, and events sponsored by the German Club.

Residents are not required to speak exclusively German, but students living in the German House should expect to speak German as often as possible, particularly at group meals and special events.

Who will live there?

Freshmen and upperclassmen are equally welcome. Residents must have completed German 122 (or qualifying placement score) by the time they live in the house. The house is open to both men and women.

Residents are expected to make the German House a special place. You should have a positive attitude toward cross-cultural living and communication, contribute to the academic goals of the house, and maintain the cooperative spirit of the house.

Where is it?

The German House is on the second floor of the Colonnades A, next to the Koury Business Center. Also on that floor are the French House and Italian House.

The floor includes:

  • single bedrooms (stand-alone or suites)
  • wireless internet
  • cable TV
  • laundry facilities
  • common room with kitchenette

How much does it cost?

Each room is a single so the cost to live in the house is the price of a single room on campus per semester. The rates for the following academic year are determined during the March Board of Trustees meeting.

Freshmen are required to have 15 meal plan, while upperclassmen are required to have a five meal plan.

How do I apply?

Returning Students: Contact the community advisor(s) and complete an application during the annual online housing selection process.

Incoming Freshmen: Select YES on the Freshman Online Housing Application and answer the essay question and submit it.
