Alternative Breaks Program

Criminal Justice Reform (Philadelphia, PA)


This program, run over spring break, focuses on increasing awareness of the criminal justice system and provides opportunities to interact with and learn from inmates and those who have recently been released.

Participants will work with Inside Out, a program designed to foster dialogue and learning between those who are incarcerated and those who are not. Participants will visit maximum security facilities, meet with death row inmates, and learn about their stories.

This program will deeply explore the criminal justice system and the many problems faced by marganalized communities within the system. Participants will be challenged to think critically about issues like the school-to-prison pipeline, community policing, and the death penalty.


The cost for this program is $600. This cost includes all food, transportation, housing, and program fees. All participants might need is personal spending money.
