Back to Headlines

If you’re interested in the perfect Valentine date, this is it!

And it takes place during Christmastime. Two holidays in one! Come to the Performing Arts Department’s musical production She Loves Me being presented in McCrary Theatre this weekend.

She Loves Me is a charming musical rewrite of Miklos Laszlo’s play Parfumerie, which tells the story of a man and woman who have an antagonistic relationship at work but fall in love with each other through letters they exchange anonymously with each other as “Dear Friend.” The accomplished composer/lyricist team Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, who had great success with Fiorello, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Apple Tree, among other works, teamed with Cabaret librettist Joe Masteroff to create a perfectly charming musical version of this much beloved story.

We saw the same story with a very young Jimmy Stewart and the feisty Margaret Sullavan as the feuding pen pals in Shop Around the Corner, Van Johnson and Judy Garland in the musical film In the Good Old Summertime, and most recently Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail.

She Loves Me plays in McCrary Theatre Thursday thru Saturday evenings 2/9, 10 and 11 at 7:30, with 2:00 matinees on Saturday and Sunday, 2/11 and 12. Remember that the Saturday matinee is our understudy performance with proceeds going to Little Pink Houses of Hope, a local philanthropy that raises funds to help families of cancer patients undergoing extensive treatment for breast cancer. At all performances you can purchase raffle tickets to win something from over $5000 worth of prizes donated by a host of local businesses, with a special jewelry raffle offered only at the benefit performance.
