Dr. Sienerth graduated from Pfeiffer College (now Pfeiffer University) in 1985 with a dual B.S. degree in chemistry and mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville working with Professor G. Mamantov [Dissertation: "Studies of the Electrochemistry of Niobium (V) in Sodium Chloroaluminate and Fluorochloroaluminate Melts"]. Dr. Sienerth taught at the Virginia Military Institute for six years before coming to Elon College in 1998. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Electrochemical Society, the Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry and the Council on Undergraduate Research.  In 2001 Dr. Sienerth was awarded the inaugural Japheth E. Rawls Professorship for Undergraduate Research in the Sciences.  He currently serves as the Director of the Undergraduate Research Program at Elon University while still teaching courses in the chemistry department.

Dr. Sienerth is actively involved in research with undergraduate students.
He has conducted research with over 30 undergraduate and high school students over the last 12 years

    His his research projects include:

Electrochemistry of Platinum complexesThe electrochemical characterization of
    some novel Pt(IV)-diimene complexes.

Redox State of GlassmeltsThe electrochemical investigation of
the redox state of molten glass.

Modification of methodsDevelopment of modified colorimetric methods for
the determination of metal ions in aqueous solution.
