Students, faculty, and staff can access their Elon e-mail by using any of the e-mail client programs that the university supports. These include:
- Outlook Web Access
With Outlook Web Access (OWA), students, faculty, and staff can access their e-mail from any computer that has Internet access, whether on or off campus, PC or Mac. This Web-based mail client is a feature of the Microsoft Exchange Server that Elon operates. Outlook Web Access gives users secure access through a Web browser to their e-mail, calendar, group scheduling, and public folder information.
Outlook Web Access can be used to send and receive e-mail from any of the public (i.e. lab or Library) computers on campus. You may also use OWA on your own computer. As this mail client is browser-based, no configuration is needed. To log into OWA, use Firefox to browse to http://email.elon.edu. Enter your Elon user name and password. For more information about Outlook Web Access, visit the Technology home page at http://www.elon.edu/technology and use the appropriate links.
Note: If you have lost or cannot recall your e-mail password, contact the Technology Help Desk at ext. 5200.
- Outlook 2007 —Outlook provides e-mail and an integrated solution for managing your time and information. It also allows you to quickly search your communications, organize your work, and better share your information with others. Students who bring Windows-based computers to Elon may want to use Outlook 2007 on their own computers. To set up Outlook 2007 on your personal computer, visit http://www.elon.edu/emailsetup/.
- Entourage 2008 - Entourage is a Microsoft e-mail and personal information manager popular with many Mac users. It provides e-mail and an integrated solution for managing your time and information. Entourage 2008 is the recommended e-mail client for Macintosh computers on campus. To set up Entourage 2008 on your personal computer, visit http://www.elon.edu/emailsetup/.
- If you're faculty, staff, or a student having a problem with your user name, password, or logging in
to Outlook or Outlook Web Access, please call the Help Desk at ext. 5200.
- If you need help with a specific feature of Outlook or Outlook Web Access, first check the program's
online help. In Outlook, the Help menu is the last menu on the right; click Microsoft Office Outlook Help. If you're
using Microsoft Outlook, you can also enter your question in the "type a question for help" field at the top right of the Outlook window.
- In Outlook Web Access, you may need to scroll to the right of the program to
see a link to Help. If you're unable to find an answer to your question in the online help, contact us at ext. 5000.
Passwords may be changed only in Outlook Web Access. Once changed, the new password is effective whether you log into Outlook or Outlook Web Access. To change your password, log into Outlook Web Access, ensure the Shortcuts bar is displayed, and click Options. In the resulting pane, scroll down to the Password section and click the Change Password button. Click here for a PDF on changing your e-mail password.
In general, we suggest that:
- Faculty and staff will find usually find it most convenient to use Outlook/Entourage on their office
computers. These programs not only enable you to read e-mail but also provide calendar and
scheduling functions and task and contact management.
- When away from your office, either elsewhere on campus or off campus, Outlook Web
Access (OWA) may be used to access e-mail and any other information stored on Elon's
Microsoft Exchange server.
- Students may find it most convenient to always use Outlook Web Access. However, they
can also use Outlook/Entourage on their own computers. OWA is available to all faculty,
staff and students anytime, anywhere, from any computer with Internet access.
