ACC Literacy project

Description: Alamance Community College (ACC) has experienced a 60% increase in demand for adult literacy skills and class preparation for those returning to school to get the high school diploma (GED) for the fall 2009 semester. This means there is a tremendous need for volunteer support as well as a chance for students to understand where these needs are coming from, the extent of the needs, and how these needs are being addressed at the local level.GED in the Community This is a 10 lesson correspondence class designed to allow students to work at home at their convenience touching on skill areas to prepare for the GED test. Closely linked with these programs areas, is the need for a literacy campaign to convey the availability of these programs to potential students, which is a unique and hard to reach community, and to provide information to community partners such as Job Link, Alamance Partnership for Children, Social Services just to name a few. Also, a need develop internal marketing materials and web based information for resource fairs and the community at large. As of now, no materials exist. (2 students needed)
