ACC-Literacy program

Description: We serve adult students age (16-100) Adults struggling to read, adult with disabilities (students with idd), and students looking to get their GED to transition to college or the workplace. Involves themes of diversity, poverty, abuse, disadvantaged, community barriers (i.e. transportation, childcare, housing, ex-offender etc.) Cross resources with the college and key agencies in the community. Possible times for direct service: 8:30-11:30 or 12:00-3:00 Pm hours 5:00-8:00 or 6:30-9:30 Sat AM 9:00-12:00 We can work with varying schedules. ASL students will learn: 1. Social & economic factors of globalization - displaced workers. 2. Social & economic factors for lack of education & overcoming barriers. 3. Experience hands-on literacy & transformation of lives & community through literacy work. 4. social justice

Volunteer Orientation Times: M-W 8:30-11:30 and M-W 5:00-8:00 weekly

Notes: Many different classes to chose from. Work can vary from tutoring to special projects. We welcome visits, calls, and email inquiries.
