Description of Desired Service:
Theoretical & methodological concepts for conducting applied research are introduced. Students explore public opinion polling, marketing research & qualitative methods, & highlight surveys, content analysis, focus groups & audience analysis. 5-6 students work on a Community Partner research project. Multiple student groups may work on the same research project. Community agency representatives are invited to present on research needs & goals, prior to class research development, & at least one representative from each group will visit & tour the agency. The professor will act as the liaison for agency & send drafts of research instruments & plans to the community partner prior to the conduction of actual research. Students conduct environmental scans, focus groups, & surveys for the partner & will provide partners with a written report summarizing their findings. Agency representatives are invited to attend the student groups presentations about their findings at the end of the course.
