Patrick Clanton ’14 takes his place in the national tour of 'Sister Act'

After graduating and completing a second-year apprenticeship at Flat Rock Playhouse, the Class of 2014 graduate begins rehearsals this fall for "Sister Act."

Though many in the Elon community may know him from his role as Coalhouse in Elon’s production of “Ragtime” last fall, Patrick Clanton ’14 now has a new claim to fame on the national level.

After a “spur of the moment decision” to attend an open call, Clanton pursued an audition that would lead to the first of four callbacks for the National Tour of Sister Act.  Following the audition process, which included a final callback with the Tony Award-winning director of the original productio,n Jerry Zaks, Clanton received a call inviting him onboard the tour while still in class at Elon.

“I was in my dialects class which was filled with other Music Theatre majors, making it an exciting moment that I will certainly never forget,” he said. Clanton will be a part of the male ensemble, and will also be understudying the roles of Eddie, Curtis and TJ.

Clanton just completed his second year apprenticeship at Flat Rock Playhouse and appeared most recently in their production of “Miss Saigon.” Describing his last few months as “an absolute whirlwind,” Clanton feels grateful for this period of opportunity in his life and looks forward to continuing to grow as a performer with a new group of people seeing the country and doing what we love.”

Clanton began rehearsals for the tour Sept. 8 and his first stop will be in Wilmington, Del., on Oct. 14.  Looking ahead at the unique places he will perform, Clanton is “especially looking forward to the last tour stop in Anchorage, Alaska” and is also excited to return to his “home state” on Nov. 14 when the show comes to Fayetteville, N.C.
