Social entrepreneur Danielle Nierenberg visits Elon University this month to share insights regarding what it takes to foster a more sustainable food system.

Nierenberg is an author, activist and president and co-founder of Food Tank. Her work on global agricultural issues has been cited in more than 8,000 major print and broadcast outlets worldwide, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Some of the issues she writes about include the relationships between gender equity and the environment, factory farming in the developing world and innovations in sustainable agriculture.

Food Tank focuses on building a global community for safe, healthy and nourished eaters.  Using social media and a number of other mediums, the organization shares stories of growing food in ways that are more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable than conventional models. This also includes sharing models for making food more accessible both physically and culturally to help alleviate hunger, obesity and poverty. Food Tank connects people and organizations creating a network of people all pushing for food system change.

Nierenberg will present “Cultivating a Better Food System.” The talk will highlight stories of hope and success in the food system seen by Nierenberg firsthand in both industrialized and developing countries across the world.
