Elon's Resident Student Association make impact at state conference

Delegates from Elon’s Resident Student Association attended the North Carolina Association of Residence Halls state conference from Feb. 6-8, 2015, at Western Carolina University.

Eleven students and three advisors were present, representing five of Elon’s six residential neighborhoods.

The NCARH conference occurs each February and is hosted by a member institution. In preparation for the conference, delegates met throughout Winter Term to create spirit materials, plan programs, and bond as Elon representatives.

RSA also contributed to the conference by composing bids, four of which were for positional awards, and one of which was to host a fall business conference. They received awards for President of the Year for Evan Miceli, and the Building RSA award for the most improved organization in the time since last year’s conference.

They also secured the bid to host Fall Summit, which will occur in early October on Elon’s campus, bringing delegates from 15 NCARH schools to Elon to conduct business and tour the campus. The last NCARH conference that Elon hosted was in 1992.

Delegates also wrote case studies, presented programs to other delegates, and brought philanthropy materials. The chosen philanthropy for the conference was soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, and the Elon delegation collected them from residence halls across campus, bringing in more than 25 pounds of tabs.

Two senior delegates, Kate Schefer and Alex Caruso, were also recognized for their involvement with four-year service pins. Delegate Toby Finizio was elected to the State Board of Directors as the AD of Finance for the 2015-2016 year.

RSA has open meetings for residents every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Global Commons 200, and its office is located in room 105F in the Moseley Student Lounge. Its mission is to “help students love where they live” by offering programs, opportunities, and campus improvements to students in residential housing.

Students who are interested in getting involved with RSA can attend general body meetings or email rsa@elon.edu.
