Student Government Association announces Organization Awards

Elon's SGA inaugurated new officers and recognized organizations and individuals on March 12.

Elon’s Student Government Association honored several groups, students, faculty and staff members at its 20th annual Organization Awards and Inauguration Ceremony on March 12. The banquet also served to mark the inauguration of the incoming SGA executive officers.

Outgoing SGA President Joseph Incorvia administered the oath of office to incoming President Avery Steadman, Vice President Adam Knaszak, Secretary Grace McDavid and Treasurer Leo Moran.

Awards were presented to the following groups and individuals:

Outstanding new student organization: Kappa Alpha Omicron

Student organization of the year – fewer than 30 members: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Student organization of the year – more than 30 members: Beta Alpha Psi

University program of the year: SPARKS

Brian C. O’Shea outstanding service to students award: Michelle Campos-Gregori, Millpoint Catering

Gerald L. Francis outstanding faculty member of the year: Mussa Idris, assistant professor of anthropology

Barbara H. Carlton outstanding advisor of the year: Amy Vaughn – Tri Sigma, program assistant for residence life in the Historic Neighborhood

Student organization/program committee of the year: Colleges Against Cancer Special Events Committee

Student organization member of the year: Holly Weiler, Elon Volunteers

Student organization officer of the year: Omolayo Ojo, Elon African Society

Student organization newcomer of the year: Rachel Tinker, Resident Student Association

Dr. Earl Danieley Leadership Award: Marisa Pareti and Evan Miceli

The SGA also honored four retiring faculty and staff members at the banquet: Gerald L. Francis, executive vice president; Ron Klepcyk, director of human resources, Vickie Somers, director of auxiliary services; and Chalmers Brumbaugh professor of political science and policy studies.
