Geoffrey Claussen presents at international conference on religion and violence

Geoffrey Claussen, Lori and Eric Sklut Emerging Scholar in Jewish Studies and Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, presented a paper at Wake Forest University's April 2015 International Conference on Religion, Violence and Peace.

The conference, hosted by Wake Forest’s Human Rights and Global Justice Research Group, brought together scholars from around the world representing a variety of disciplinary approaches.

Claussen presented as part of a panel on the theme of “Religious Violence and Moral Responsibility.” His paper, titled “War, Musar, and the Construction of Humility in Modern Jewish Thought,” analyzed ways in which a focus on the virtue of humility can be used both to caution against the use of force and to generate enthusiasm for war.
