Staff Appreciation Day Food Drive nets over a ton of canned items

A campus canned food drive on May 29, 2015, collected 2,274 pounds of food to benefit Allied Churches of Alamance County.

The Elon University Office of Human Resources and the Campus Kitchen Project have made it an annual tradition to host a food drive on Staff Appreciation Day.

On Friday, May 29, 2015, staff members from across campus donated canned goods to Allied Churches of Alamance County, the largest shelter and lunchtime feeding program in the county. Staff members who donated were eligible to win a three-hour limo ride and free dinner.

This year the food drive brought in 2,274 pounds of canned food and staff are still bringing in donations. Staff volunteers from the Division of Student Life collected, sorted, weighed and delivered the food to Allied Churches Holly Hill Mall location.

If you would like to donate any additional goods please drop them off at the Kernodle Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement or the Office of Human Resources. Allied Churches is currently looking for donations of canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, grits, granola bars, boxed rice and pasta dishes, pasta, pasta sauce, macaroni ‘n cheese, rice, stuffing, canned tuna, chicken, beef stew, canned potatoes, peanut butter, sugar, flour, mayo, seasonings, aluminum foil and plastic wrap.
