Colin Donohue discusses coaching writers at high school institute

The coordinator of student media also talked about editing and mentoring student staffs.

Colin Donohue ’05, Elon University’s coordinator of student media and an instructor in the School of Communications, gave a presentation titled “Careful Editing and Consistent Coaching: Bringing Credibility to You and Your News Product” at the North Carolina Scholastic Media Association Summer Institute June 16 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Donohue’s remarks, which were delivered to high school journalism students, centered on the journalistic editing process and the challenges of leading a group of creative people. He provided tips and techniques to help jumpstart leadership structures and mentorship opportunities.

This is the third consecutive year Donohue has offered this editing and coaching session at the institute. At Elon, he advises The Pendulum and teaches the course “Multimedia Journalism.”
