Office of the President announces promotion, new appointment

President Leo M. Lambert has promoted Jeff Stein to associate vice president and appointed alumnus David L. Morrow II to his staff.

Jeffrey P. Stein, who has served as a lead member of President Leo M. Lambert’s staff since 2010, has been promoted to the position of associate vice president, along with his current titles of chief of staff, secretary to the board of trustees and assistant professor of English.

In announcing the promotion, President Lambert said the new title reflects Stein’s strong leadership across campus. “As a member of my senior staff, Jeff has been an outstanding advisor and an excellent manager of the complex operations of our office and the university,” Lambert said. “He is the official liaison between trustees and the campus community and coordinates all board functions. He also works closely with me to plan and implement the university’s strategic initiatives, manages effective communication with all Elon constituencies, and collaborates daily with offices and individuals across the university. His deep understanding of Elon, along with his communication skills, strategic thinking, and work with students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and trustees, make him an invaluable asset for the university.”

Prior to joining the Office of the President in 2010, Stein served as assistant professor of English and associate dean of students, providing leadership for the university’s residence life, service learning, and multicultural center operations. He joined Elon in 2002 and has continued to retain his faculty position and his passion as an educator.

Stein co-chaired Elon’s Residential Campus Committee that developed the university’s residential plan for a major expansion of facilities and programs. As Elon’s Jewish population has grown from 100 to 600 students, Stein has led program development for Jewish Life, advising the campus Hillel organization since 2002, developing and staffing the Jewish Life Advisory Council and Jewish Life summits, and serving as an advancement gift officer for Jewish Life. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in creative writing and literary studies and was named to Phi Beta Kappa at Beloit College and his master of fine arts in creative writing from Colorado State University.

In addition to Stein’s promotion, Lambert has appointed alumnus David L. Morrow II to a vacant position in the president’s office. Morrow will serve as special advisor to the president and assistant chief of staff. He will support the office’s work with external constituents, producing reports and communications, coordinating councils and meetings, planning events and working on other special office initiatives.

Morrow earned his undergraduate degree from Elon in 2007 and his law degree from Elon University School of Law in 2010. He comes to Elon from PayPal, Inc. where he served as Legal Counsel. Prior to joining PayPal, Inc., he was an attorney in the Washington, D.C. office of BuckleySandler LLP where he assisted clients in the financial services industry. Following law school, Morrow worked for the Hon. Anna Blackburne-Rigsby of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Additionally, he served as a law clerk for BB&T Corporation, U.S. Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (N.Y.) and the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Morrow has been honored by the National Bar Association with a “Top 40 Under 40 Attorneys” award and the Junius W. Williams “Young Lawyer of the Year” award. Morrow is active with the American Bar Association (“ABA”), was selected by the ABA Business Law Section to serve as one of five fellows nationwide from 2013-15, and was a member of the inaugural class of the ABA’s Collaborative Bar Leadership Academy in 2013. He is the immediate past chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Washington Bar Association and the past vice chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association.
