Paula Weller, senior lecturer in accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, was awarded second place in the non-fiction category of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution’s 2015 American Heritage Literature and Drama contest.

Weller’s narrative focused on Colonel Arthur Forbis, a Guilford County, N.C., native who fought in the battle of Guilford Courthouse. She received the award at the organization’s annual convention last month.

Entries were judged on quality of work, originality, incorporation of the theme “Celebrate America! Exploring our American Heritage” and written expression of the theme.

Weller has been an active Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) member since 2009. She joined the organization to learn more about the American Revolutionary War and about her ancestors that supported or served in the war.  She works with her DAR chapter to support veterans and to provide college scholarships, as well as various educational programs for the community.
