Voice faculty member to sing with Greensboro Opera's upcoming production of La Cenerentola

Dr. Julie Celona-VanGorden, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music, will sing her Greensboro opera debut as Clorinda in Rossini's La Cenerentola.  Performances will be August 28 and 30th.

Dr. Julie Celona-VanGorden will sing the role of Clorinda (the older step-sister) in Greensboro Opera’s production of La Cenerentola by Giacomo Rossini.  The opera is a spin on the Cinderella story in classic opera buffa style.  Comedic and even ridiculous at times, the  the step-mother is replaced by a buffoon-like step-father and instead of a fairly godmother, a wise older man, Alidoro, steers the show. Clorinda and Tisbe, the two nutty and selfish stepsisters open the show and are prominant characters throughout as they try to win the favor of the prince.  Sung in Italian with English supertitles, the performances will be at Aycock Auditorium in Greensboro on August 28th and 30th.  This will be Dr. Celona-VanGorden’ts debut as a principal character with Greensboro Opera.  Other cast members include Metropolitan singers Sandra Eddy and Sidney Outlaw as well as many other wonderful performers.  Dr. Celona-VanGorden has been an adjunct instructor in music at Elon for 13 years and teachers voice to music and music theatre majors.
