The associate professor of music takes the podium for UNC-Chapel Hill's 50th Annual Open Sing of 'Messiah.'
Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor Stephen A. Futrell will conduct the annual open sing of Handel’s “Messiah” on Dec. 5 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“I am honored and delighted to have been invited to appear as guest conductor for this wonderful event,” Futrell said.
Hosted by the Newman Catholic Student Center Parish and sponsored by Wesley Campus Ministry, the performance will be the 50th anniversary of a highly anticipated and popular musical event at the Newman Center on the UNC campus.
Futrell will be conducting a professional orchestra with professional soloists. The audience is the choir. Selections will include all of Part I, and some selections from each of Part II and III.
“I am reaching out to our Elon community—faculty, staff, alumni and current students—so that we have a strong Elon showing,” Futrell said.
Audience members can bring their own vocal score for Handel’s timeless masterpiece, or scores will be available at the door—just show up and sing out.
