Members of Assistant Professor Shaina Dabbs’ “Event Management” class co-hosted an April 23 fundraiser benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & Western North Carolina. The students teamed with Elon Athletics and the Office of Student Activities to host “Wins and Wishes: A Phoenix Block Party,” a four-hour event held in conjunction with a full slate of athletic events on campus. The block party included food trucks, a cornhole tournament and music, provided by DJ-LA Events.

In addition to the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by the women’s track and field team, Elon Athletics held the football team’s 2016 spring game and a baseball contest against Hofstra University.

During the “Wins and Wishes: A Phoenix Block Party,” mascots from the Burlington Royals and the Humane Society of Alamance County engage in a friendly dance competition in the middle of Bank of America Drive.
“It was great to see students apply what they have learned in the classroom to enhance the fan experience at various Elon athletic events on Saturday while also raising $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” said Dabbs.

The block party brought together representatives from the Phoenix Phanatics, Vital Signs, Smooth Progressions, Humane Society of Alamance County, Pelican’s SnoBalls, Captain Ponchos, Burlington Royals and Thomas Tire & Automotive.
