Announcing Elon's Visual Experiential Transcript

The new version of the student transcript provides a graphic representation of a variety of co-curricular experiences.

Elon University is announcing the release of the next iteration of the Elon Experiences Transcript, the university’s co-curricular transcript – the Visual Experiential Transcript. Building on the university’s 22-year history of recording and validating student participation in the five Elon Experiences (Service, Undergraduate Research, Leadership, Internship, and Global Engagement – Study Abroad/Study USA), the Visual Experiential Transcript will allow students to present their experiences to potential employers and graduate schools in an accessible and aesthetically pleasing medium for the digital age.

While this new record is useful for employers and graduate schools, allowing them to appraise the “whole student,” it is a boon to students – who now have a comprehensible tool that serves as an anchor for synthesizing their overall collegiate experience and sharing their Elon story.

The Visual Experiential Transcript was created as part of a NASPA and AACRAO partnership funded by the Lumina Foundation to develop new models for comprehensive student records and first launched spring 2016 to graduating students in the Class of 2016. The Experiential Transcript development team was led by University Registrar Rodney Parks, and included Evan Heiser, assistant to the vice president for student life and dean of students; Paul Miller, professor of exercise science and director of undergraduate research and intellectual climate initiatives; and Julie White, programmer/analyst with application technologies. Along with Parchment, the university’s transcript provider, and an independent developer, the document was designed to breathe life into the co-curricular transcript and pave the way for further innovation.

Beginning with an inaugural launch this May, Class of 2016 graduates will receive a complimentary copy of the Visual EXP along with their CeDiploma™ upon graduation, and all students will have the option to order it along with their other records at any time. This pdf document represents the same information as the Elon Experiences Transcript. The current Elon Experiences Transcript will still be available to students to order in conjunction with their academic transcript. It will also remain visible to both students and their academic advisors through OnTrack to serve as a catalyst for incorporating out-of-class experiences with academic, career and professional development goals. Students will have the option to combine this new transcript with the academic transcript as one certified PDF document for potential employers, thereby capturing the depth of the four-year college experience.
