Elon will host former ambassador and head of the EastWest Institute Cameron Munter on Nov. 14 as he delivers an address on contemporary foreign policy.
Titled “Foreign Policy Engagement: A Look at the Operation Against Osama bin Laden and Today’s Key Global Challenges,” the evening discussion in Whitley Auditorium with Munter is sponsored by the Life@Elon community. Along with the discussion in Whitley, Munter will meet with students earlier in the day as part of the Core Forums, which also include panel discussions with a variety of experts around the topic of Islam and Muslim history and culture on Nov. 13 and 14.
Munter has been a career diplomat, serving in some of the most conflict-ridden areas of the globe. He served from 2010 to 2012 as U.S. ambassador to Pakistan where he guided U.S.-Pakistani relations through a strained period, including the operation against Osama bin Laden.
Whether as ambassador to Serbia managing the Kosovo independence crisis or twice serving in Iraq, leading the first Provincial Reconstruction Team in Mosul in 2006, Munter has a unique insider’s view on key global events.
