Charlotte Alumni Chapter hosts new family-friendly event

More than 50 Elon alumni and their families gathered on July 9 for a cookout at Freedom Park

Over the past few years, the Charlotte Alumni Chapter has flourished into an active community with incredible events like Carolina Panthers tailgates, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, socials around the metro area and minor league baseball outings.

They have even held more unique events like Elon 102, where professionals educate alumni about financial planning, home buying and cooking. All of these were in addition to Charlotte’s Evening for Elon, Elon Day Party and the Welcome to the City event.

But this summer, the chapter set out to put on a different type of fun event never hosted before: a family-style cookout at Freedom Park in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. The chapter provided hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes, while the weather gave everyone a wonderful summer afternoon with Elon alumni, friends and families of all generations.

With the success of this event, the chapter is looking forward to hosting more events on weekend afternoons geared towards families, for whom evening events don’t work.
