Boston alumni chapter cheers on the Red Sox

On Aug. 15, Elon’s Boston Alumni Chapter hosted its annual summer outing at Fenway Park.

The Boston Alumni Chapter held its annual summer outing at Fenway Park in August.

This year the signature event proved to be an increidble evening for Elon alumni at the historic Fenway Park. The alumni sat together in the right field box, behind an unobstructed view near “Pesky’s Pole”—the nickname for the right field foul pole at Fenway Park. Adorned with Elon monogram hats and Fenway Franks, they cheered loudly for the Red Sox after a triple play in the fourth inning, followed by eight runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Prior to the game, the evening kicked off at Jillian’s & Lucky Strike Lanes, where more than 40 alumni, family and friends joined to reconnect, network and have fun. The Boston Red Sox were head-to-head in multiple game series with the St. Louis Cardinals and the alumni had the wonderful opportunity to see the third time they’ve faced off in the regular season.

Normally the Elon in Boston crowd wouldn’t dare cheer for the away team, but when Elon alumnus and Massachusetts native John Brebbia ’12 took the mound adorned with St. Louis Cardinals jersey #60, everyone was filled with enthusiasm. Brebbia tossed three rapid strike outs to the Sox before being replaced after a couple of successful innings. The alumni were proud to support him and to cheer on a fellow graduate.

All in all, this tradition that was orchestrated by the Boston Alumni Chapter board, was a fantastic evening had by all as the Boston Red Sox took home a 10-4 “W.”

Boston’s Elon alumni rally to their next event for Elon’s Welcome to the City series at Tia’s Waterfront Restaurant and Bar on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. You can  register for the Welcome to the City event here.
