Winfield presents at 18th World Congress of the International Association of Buddhist Studies

The 18th World Congress of the International Association of Buddhist Studies was hosted by the University of Toronto in August.

Associate Professor of Religious Studies Pamela D. Winfield presented her research at the 18th World Congress of the International Association of Buddhist Studies hosted by the University of Toronto from August 20-25, 2017.

Her paper entitled “Building Materials and Bodhi-mind at Eiheiji Zen Monastery, Japan” analyzed two texts by Zen master Dogen (1200-1253) that subtly encouraged his lay and monastic practitioners to contribute both material and human resources to the construction of his new monastery in 1244.

This congress only happens once every three or four years and draws scholars and scholar-practitioners from all over the world. It is the first time it has been held on the North America continent in decades.
