Lyons co-edits a special issue of the Journal of Business and Psychology

Associate Professor of Management Brian Lyons co-edited a special issue about how sports data can be used to study organizational phenomena.

Brian Lyons, associate professor of management in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Business and Psychology focusing on how sports data can impact business practices. He also co-authored the introductory lead article titled, “Box Scores and Bottom Lines: Sports Data Can Inform Research and Practice in Organizations.”

The special issue contains six empirical articles that use sports data to help solve questions in management research. Article topics range from the impact of traveling on team performance to pay standing and individual performance.

Lyons co-edited and co-authored the special issue and introductory article with William Gentry, director of leadership insights and analytics at the Center for Creative Leadership, and Brian Hoffman, professor of industrial and organizational psychology at the University of Georgia.

The article first appeared online on Aug. 26, and can be found in the October issue of the Journal of Business and Psychology.

The Journal of Business and Psychology is a high-quality outlet that publishes research designed to advance organizational science and practice. It has an acceptance rate of 13 percent and a five-year impact factor of 3.23.

Lyons earned his doctorate degree in organizational studies from the State University of New York at Albany. He joined the Love School of Business in fall 2014. His research interests involve recruitment, selection, counterproductive work and leadership effectiveness.

Lyons is the recipient of the 2016 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and the 2017 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
