The director of polling at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, Della Volpe has become one of the world’s leading authorities on global sentiment, opinion and influence. His research has a particular focus on the views of Millennials as well as public opinion in the age of digital and social media.

During his visit to Elon, Della Volpe will meet with all sections of COR 110 and will deliver an address, “Millennials and Civic Engagement in the Age of Trump,” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3 in Lakeside 212.

“John Della Volpe is on the cutting edge of research on the incredible electoral potential this generation of students has,” said Mark Dalhouse, director of Study USA. “Having this nationally recognized authority as a guest on campus represents Study USA’s continuing commitment to supporting the intellectual climate on Elon’s campus and encouraging students to be active citizens involved in the issues of our time.”

The address, which includes a Q&A session with the audience, is open to the campus and the community. It is sponsored by Study USA, the Elon Core Curriculum, the Residential Neighborhood for Civic Engagement & Social Innovation, the Elon Political Engagement Work Group, the Elon University Poll, the Department of Political Science and Policy Studies, the Institute of Politics and Public Affairs and the National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement.

Della Volpe has been affiliated with the Institute of Politics at Harvard since the late 1990s and leads a public opinion survey group of students that focuses on the attitudes of young Americans toward politics and public service. He received an Eisenhower Fellowship in 2008 that supported extensive travel through China, Hong Kong and Korea studying Millennials and the use of the internet.

Along with his work as polling director at the Institute of Politics, Della Volpe is founder and CEO of SocialSphere, a big data and social media analytics company based in Harvard Square in Cambridge.
